Read-A-Thon
Amy Millslagle and Holly Farley
2018 Read-A-Thon Co-Chairs
RAT is an 11-day reading marathon from Friday, January 26 – Monday, February 5. Students are asked to read as many books as they can to help improve literacy skills and raise money for JG by obtaining sponsors.
RAT preparation will kick off Monday, November 20th as students will start learning the song “Words Are Your Wheels.” The song title will serve as the theme for RAT 2018 and the children will also perform it at future RAT assemblies. A free MP3 and the lyrics are available for download below. Download the Read-A-Thon parent letter for more information.
How to Contribute:
-
Give the Gift of Reading and provide your student with a personalized message in their Read-A-Thon booklet! When you Give the Gift of REading, your gift total is included in your student's sponsorship totals.
-
Buy your student a Read-A-Thon t-shirt! These soft and cozy long-sleeve t-shirts feature the 2018 Read-A-Thon logo and are sure to be a big hit with students! (Please note: some sponsorships include complimentary t-shirts.)
-
Read with your child during Read-A-Thon! Winter is a great time to snuggle up with a good book. Encourage them often, and have fun!
-
Record books daily in book log and return to school each day. Don't forget to sign off on the books your student has read!
-
Encourage honest participation! Literacy is something that will stick with your student forever. Encourage them to read books on their level.
-
Be familiar with the Read-A-Thon credit system and club levels to ensure your child’s success.
